Time stands still here. From breathtaking sunrises to magnificent sunsets, lazy days blend into one another in a glorious symphony of tranquil island life. As night approaches and the last light fades an incredible, splendorous star-filled sky spreads her wings and takes flight.
Life is beautiful at Azura on Benguerra Island, where warm, welcoming staff make it their mission to ensure you have a private, peaceful, pleasurable and memorable vacation experience.
Built and operated in partnership with the local community, Azura Benguerra Island is Mozambique’s first luxury eco-boutique retreat. Each of the 16 villas is designed to offer you absolute privacy in a pristine natural environment.
The 16 villas are located right on the beach and boast oversized beds, air-conditioning, sea view bathrooms, outdoor showers, a choice of lounging areas and a butler service.
Families are welcome at Azura on Benguerra Islands. The two-bedroom Villa Amizade (which means friendship in Portuguese,) is the perfect family retreat and enjoys additional lounging areas, a wine bar and a larger pool. Located at the west end of the resort guests are spoilt with magnificent sea and sunset views.
At Villa Amizade, the master bedroom opens up on two sides to the lounging decks and the en-suite bathroom is luxuriously appointed with a freeform bath and indoor and outdoor showers. Egyptian cotton is standard for bed linen, perfectly soft and cool for those warm tropical nights. Decor is modern Mozambican chic with beautifully carved furnishings and traditional artworks.
The second bedroom can be configured as a king or a twin and features a ‘look-through’ sea view, small lounge area with TV/DVD, large bathroom with freeform bath, and double outdoor shower.
Everything here is aimed at ensuring a relaxing vacation. Guests staying at Villa Amizade, will enjoy the lounge with TV/DVD and a selection of games to which leads out to your very own ‘wine bar’.
The 10 metre feature pool is perfect for cooling off on hot summer days before you relax in the hammock with a good book, or lounge in your double sala on the beach sipping a cocktail as the sun sets in her magnificence over the sparkling ocean.
There’s a good reason why Conde Nast Traveller Magazine name these the ‘Best Beach Villas in the World’.
The Presidential Villa
The Presidential Villa at Azura is one of the most secluded and luxurious private residence to be found anywhere in the Indian Ocean. Set amongst the lush indigenous vegetation, this splendid beachfront location offers complete privacy for the most discerning guests.
There are three bedrooms in the Presidential Villa. The master bedroom is opulently spacious with its own relaxation areas, lounge and panoramic bathroom with freeform bath and shower.
The second luxurious room is laid out like the Infinity Beach Villas and the third bedroom is a small twin with en-suite shower – perfect for nannies, guides, staff or small children. Natural thatched wooden walkways link the rooms together.
Choose one of the many daybeds that surround the spectacular 16m infinity pool or curl up with a book in your beachside sala. Have your butler-host fix you a drink at the feature star bar, or dine on the beach beneath the stars.
The sitting room with flat screen TV/DSTV/DVD and surround sound is perfect for taking in a movie. And nothing beats a massage al fresco in the lofty tree-house lounge, with its wonderful views out to Bazaruto Dune and the setting sun.
The Presidential Villa comes with its own private chef and Mozambican butler-host for the ultimate in personalised service during your stay at Azura.
Meals at Azura on Benguerra have a focus on the freshest local Mozambican produce, with most of the fish and seafood home caught. Their top international chef’s signature dishes are sure to delight you. One of the highlights is the seven course tasting menu and the chef will always happily try to accommodate any personal requests.
The island atolls off the Mozambican coastline are home to some of the world’s most spectacular coral gardens, home to a myriad of marine life and the area is renowned for its game fishing, snorkelling and diving.
Onshore, enjoy a beach picnic, dune walks, star gazing events and some of the cultural experiences the island has to offer.
For the ultimate in indulgent pampering pay a visit to the unique African Spa where you will gently massaged with warm marula oil, covered head to toe with African body butters, experience an African facial and be rubbed down with ground spices. All treatments are based on local ingredients and African traditions and are undertaken by professional spa therapists. Treatments can be enjoyed in one of two double treatment rooms nestled quietly in the bush, or in the comfort of your own private villa.
Families are very welcome at Azura. Villa Amizade and the Presidential Villa are best for families, although their Infinity Beach Villas can accommodate an extra bed without compromising guest space.
There is a range of children’s and teen’s activities at Azura, with activities very much based around their pristine natural environment. Children can learn to dive at Azura from age 8, fishing is a great activity for all, and younger guests can also enjoy the Spa.
