Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

Paradise has been found and it lies in the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom, the smallest, but richest of the six Floral Kingdoms in the world. The reserve includes 9000 different species of which 750 are found in Grootbos Private Nature Reserve. Grootbos Lodge is the only one in South Africa that boasts the Marine Big 5 – Whales, White Sharks, Penguins, Seals and Dolphins.

Grootbos Lodge has 27 luxuriously designed suites and exclusive villas all of which have awe-inspiring views of the Atlantic Ocean from the privacy of their own private decks and balconies. Intertwined in rare fynbos and milkwood forests on the slopes above Walker Bay in Hermanus, the lodges are a testament to luxurious comfort, extravagance and ultimate indulgence. The beauty of this five-star resort is only eclipsed by its idyllic surroundings.

Guests are treated to complimentary guided nature walks and whale watching activities, while boat trips, scenic flights, spa treatments and horse riding can be arranged on request.

There are two world class restaurants at Grootbos Lodge, Red Indigo at Forest Lodge and The Garden at Garden Lodge. Six course meals are served in the cosy restaurants with magnificent views of Walker Bay. Breakfast buffets, light lunches or bistro menus are also served in the restaurants. If you’re looking for a special treat, picnics can be arranged on request.

The Lodges have every amenity you would expect from a world class vacation destination. Stunning swimming pools, lounges with telescopes and binoculars for whale, shark and dolphin spotting, laundry services, centralised telephone, fax, email and a postal service are all on hand for guest convenience.

Part of the experience at Grootbos is being part of an incredible centre for ecological study. The Garden Lodge has an extensive library and ecological interpretation and research centre with displays, plant and animal species lists which makes for a fascinating learning experience, especially for the younger guests.

Children’s Programme

There are fantastic, dedicated holiday programmes for the younger generation, where they are able to spend much (supervised) time outdoors learning more about this fabulous eco-destination. Every effort is taken to keep little guests happy at all times. The activities are a combination of education and fun in a beautiful natural setting.

The activities are focused on inspiring, educating, enthusing and exhilarating the children to make them curious of what is coming next and to ensure that they spend an exciting, interesting and enjoyable time at the Lodge.

Each activity takes place under the watchful eyes of specialised guides who accompany the children at all times. Special children’s menus and refreshments and healthy snacks are served during the activities. Grootbos Lodge’s special children’s turndown ends an exciting and fun filled day.

While the children are at play why not indulge your senses and book a session with the Bloom Beauty Salon. Pampering takes place in the comfort of your own suite, so relax and drift away on the luxurious scents of sandalwood, arnica and buchu while our fully qualified beauty therapists melt your stress away.
